I know what I want

- To travel
- To create (whether that is to write, paint, etc. )
- To open my home to others. I want to feed them, love them, give people a safe place to belong
- To minister to other women (younger, most likely)
- To support and love a man I respect with all my heart
These goals are not career-focused. So why am I getting a bachelor's in journalism?

those all sound like very good goals, even if they dont involve your major, you have a kind, warm heart, Hope. You have a love for people... that is great!

I think that what we major in is important, but it often has very little to do with what we end up doing for the rest of our lives beyond graduation.
The learning and experiences are important and useful in more than just the field that we study, and a lot of people I admire went to school for one thing and ended up doing something else -- even though I plan to stick with what I majored in for a while, I believe that doing something different can result in a more balanced and interesting person!

I agree that a lot of people don't end up in their intended fields. And that is just fine :) I will continue to pursue my degree and do it to the best of my ability, but hopefully God will make a way that I love - since He knows me better than anyone else.
